A phase change is when a substance, like water or ice, changes from one form to another. For example, water can change from a liquid form to a solid form when it gets cold enough, like when it freezes into ice. Another example is when ice melts into water when it gets warmer. This is called a phase change because the substance changes from one phase to another, like from solid to liquid or from liquid to gas.
